Peaks of the Balkans honored with the Destination Stewardship award at Tourism for Tomorrow Awards ceremony in WTTC 2013
The glittering Tourism for Tomorrow Awards ceremony was held on Tuesday night during the 13th annual World Travel and Tourism Council Global Summit in Abu Dhabi. Peaks of the Balkans – Municipality of Peja, Kosovo was honored with the Destination Stewardship award.
This award is bestowed on organizations that have implemented a sustainable tourism programme at a destination level. This incorporates social, cultural, environmental and economic benefits, as well as engagement amongst multiple stakeholders. Robin Tauck, Co-owner Tauck, Inc, and President, R. Tauck & Partners, presented the award.
“The world is a complex place and travel and tourism is a complex industry. Travel and tourism is a huge potential for good on this planet; it delivers economic benefits in the most remote places. It’s not the answer to the world’s problems, but it can play a huge role in making the world a better place,” Costas Christ, Founder and CEO, Beyond Green Travel LLC and Chairman of the Awards said at the ceremony.
